Steering body of EU-UNIDO-ITC-GoB reviews BQSP's progress

Bangladesh Quality Support Programme (BQSP), funded by EU-NORAD and implemented by UNIDO and ITC, jointly organised the high level third programme steering committee (PSC) meeting at BSTI council room in cooperation with the Government of Bangladesh (GoB).
The three-year-long BQSP is being implemented by the Vienna-based UNIDO and Geneva-based ITC, in cooperation with the different GoB ministries - Ministry of Industries, Commerce, Textile, Fisheries and Livestock.
The aims of BQSP are to develop the countrywide quality, standard, accreditation, metrology, conformity assessment infrastructure, to improve the quality, testing and training infrastructure for the textile and RMG sector, to strengthen the shrimp and fisheries inspection, quality control and traceability system as well as to develop the sector strategy, to increase awareness in quality for export diversification in the horticulture, packaging, herbal medicine and other sectors etc.
At the midst of the project the detailed component-wise activities, progress, and the upcoming work plan have been presented by UNIDO Chief Technical Adviser David Holbourne and ITC's Lilia Naas, which were supported by the respective national project coordinators.
The PSC meeting was attended by the representatives of the concerned government departments and institutions including - BSTI, BAB, CAB, BGMEA, BKMEA, DOF (FIQC) and EPB.
Programme Manager of UNIDO at Vienna Karl Schebesta and EC Delegation in Bangladesh Programme Officer Rozana Wahab were also present on the occasion to review the overall programme management and status.
First Secretary of EC Delegation in Bangladesh Jean Jacques Lauture and Joint Chief of Ministry of Industries Zafarullah co-chaired the meeting.
