Steps taken for efficient waste handling of city

The government has taken a number of steps for the efficient handling of huge wastes generated everyday in this sprawling Dhaka city, reports UNB
The steps were taken in an inter-ministerial meeting with LGRD Advisor M Anwarul Iqbal in the chair. Dhaka City Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka and senior officials concerned were present.
As per the measures, the DCC will make sure that wastes are dumped into waste containers from 6pm to 10pm everyday and the containers are taken to the dumping sites by night.
The meeting decided that additional containers will also be set up in places where needed and the City Corporation will take steps in this regard.
The corporation will gradually bring all zones of the city under its waste disposal transport system through outsourcing.
It has been asked to take necessary steps to complete work on Amin Bazar landfill soon and set up new landfills.
Local Government Depart-ment will also take necessary steps to approve the organizational structure of DCC's Solid Waste Management Department.
