Thursday, 23 August 2007

CHITTAGONG, Aug 22 (BSS): Authorities have taken necessary measures to keep the operation of Chittagong Port normal during the curfew.
"We have started issuing curfew passes for the port employees and other people involved in the process of delivering the export and import goods," Rashid Ahmed, Director (Traffic) of Chittagong Port Authority, said Wednesday.
He said apart from the activities in the port's restricted areas, the movement of vehicles carrying the export-import goods to and from the port will not also be hampered as the vehicles bound for the port or other destinations from the port can use Chittagong Port Access Road avoiding the main city areas.
On the other hand, Dhaka-Chittagong Highway used by most of the vehicles carrying export-import goods will be outside the purview of the curfew as per an official announcement, he said.
CPA officials said the authorities would also take other necessary measures as they did during such emergency situation in the past to keep the overall operational activities of the port unhindered.
