Against the backdrop of outbreak of swine flu in neighbouring India, the government has taken all measures to check the spread of this deadly disease in Bangladesh, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said Sunday, reports BSS.
Replying to a question raised by Treasury bench member MA Hannan (Mymensingh-7), the health minister said a high-level meeting on the issue has already been held with himself in the chair.
"The meeting took various steps including intensifying vigil on the borders connecting India and identification of the H1N1 virus, stock of necessary medicines and setting up seven (thermal) scanners at international airports as well as sea and land ports," he said.
Nasim said the existing medicine "Osaltamivir" has been procured and stocked with the assistance of the World Health Organisation to meet its immediate demand.
