Steps to restart closed mills in Khulna soon
Friday, 6 March 2009
Industries Minister Dilip Barua Thursday told the House that the government would take measures to restart the closed mills in Khulna Industrial Area to revive its past glory, reports BSS.
"We will try to restart the mills which were closed down during the Four-party Alliance government in the name of losing concern," he said while replying to a supplementary question from M Khabirul Huq.
There is no alternative to industrialisation across the country to achieve the goals of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-announced 'Digital Bangladesh' as well as uplifting the country as a middle income one by 2021, he said.
He said the government was mulling over formulation of a new industry policy to ensure a balanced industrialisation across the country.
Another report adds: The industries minister Thursday told the House that the government had a plan to set up two more urea fertiliser factories in the country.
Replying to a question raised by treasury bench member Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, he said the industries ministry had undertaken a plan to establish a granular urea fertiliser factory named the Northwest Fertiliser Factory with daily production capacity of 1,750 tonnes at Saydabad in Sirajganj district.
Besides, the minister said a urea fertiliser factory named the Shahjalal Fertiliser Factory (SFCL) with daily capacity of 1,750 tonnes will be set up in Sylhet district.
Responding to a question from ruling party lawmaker AKM Fazlul Haque, he said there were 5,109 fertiliser dealers in the country.
As per the recommendations of District Fertiliser and Seed Monitoring Committee, Dilip Barua said fertiliser dealers were appointed in those districts where their number was less. "Plans to appoint more dealers will be taken in future after reviewing activities of the current ones," he said.
The minister said appropriate action would be taken through investigation if any allegation was found against the dealers, appointed during the four-party alliance government.
Answering another question from Awami League lawmaker Omar Faruk Chowdhury, Dilip Barua said that the government had no plan at present to formulate separate industrial policy for the northern region.
He said the government was contemplating announcing the Industrial Policy-2009 by updating the existing Industrial Policy-2005.
To a question from treasury bench member Shafiqul Islam, the industries minister said the government had taken steps to set up an industrial park at Saydabad in Sirajganj district and a proposal would be given to include it in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) of 2009-'10 fiscal year.
