FE REPORT | Thursday, 16 November 2023

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman warned on Wednesday that stern action will be taken against the persons involved in violence and anarchy in the name of movement.
"Police will take harsh action in line with the legal measures they have for ensuring public safety and security," he said.
Stern (legal) action will be taken against the anarchists who are causing trouble in the name of movement, he told the media after a meeting with the chief election commissioner (CEC) and other election commissioners (ECs) at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon area.
Earlier the DMP police commissioner discussed the tentative date of the upcoming national elections and the possible election-time security measures with the Election Commission (EC).
He said they had visited the EC office to discuss the security situation ahead of the parliamentary polls.
He added police will take legal action if anyone tries to carry out vandalism and arson attacks on public transports including buses in the name of movement.
He, however, said police will cooperate if there is movement as per the existing laws.
CEC Kazi Habul Awal and ECs Md Ahsan Habib, Rasheda Sultana, Md Alamgir, Md Anisur Rahman and EC secretary Md Jahangir were present during the meeting.
