Stock mkt backs to normal 4.5 hours trading from today

Normal four and a half hours trading on the bourses will resume today (Monday) after a limited scale trading for more than two months, officials said.
The trading on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) will take place four and half hours from 10:00am to 2:30pm. Pre-opening and post-closing sessions will be 9:45am to 10:00am and 2.30pm to 2:45pm, a DSE official said.
Trading time extended to normal four and a half hours as banks' transactions will be continued from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Monday and Tuesday (extended lockdown period), according to a circular of Bangladesh Bank.
Trading and settlement activities on the bourses remained closed for three days (August 6, 7, 8) due to weekly holidays for Friday and Saturday and special holiday for Sunday.
Earlier, the stock trading was limited scale in line with the banking services due to government enforced-strict lockdown to curb the spread of deadly coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the DSE performed well on August 5 (Thursday), setting records, as all three indices and market-cap surged to new highs.
DSEX, the core index of the DSE, went up by 60.20 points or 0.92 per cent to settle at 6,596 on August 5, the highest since its inception more than eight years back on January 27, 2013.
Along with the core index, two other indices---the DS30 index and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) -- followed the suit to close at historical highs of 2,385 and 1,439, after gaining 19.44 points and 14.73 points respectively.
The market capitalisation of the DSE also hit a fresh all-time high at Tk 5,443 billion on August 5, surpassing the previous day's record high of Tk 5,415 billion.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, climbed to more than two months high at Tk 25.11 billion on the country's premier bourse, in a further buck by 8.50 per cent over previous day's mark of Tk 23.14 billion.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended sharply higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)-soaring 174 points to finish at 19,188 while the Selective Categories Index - CSCX rising 101 points to close at 11,513 on August 5.
