Stocks bounce back on DSE amid fresh buying spree

Stock prices on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) bounced back in the week ended Wednesday amid fresh buying by investors.
The trading in the week was cut short by one session as the market was closed on Thursday last due to public holiday on account of Shab-e-Barat.
All the market barometers -- DSE General Index or DGEN, DSE 20 and All-share Price Index or DSI gained 119.29 points, 79.33 points and 119.86 points in the week.
DGEN, DSI and DSE 20 indices closed 2455.09, 1993.54 and 2059.72 points respectively.
The daily average turnover slightly declined by 1.50 per cent to Tk 1.63 billion against Tk 1.65 billion of the previous week.
"The turnover will rise this week due to the fund flow from the refund warrants of IPOs like Trust Bank, International Leasing and Phoenix Finance," a DSE source said.
A whopping Tk 7.0 billion will be refunded to the investors from the refund warrants of Trust Bank Ltd, which held its lottery on August 27 last.
Investors deposited Tk 8.0 billion against Tk 700 million worth of Trust Bank IPOs.
Out of 274 issues, 116 gained, 96 declined, 20 remained unchanged and 42 were not traded in the week.
BRAC Bank and DESCO were the top two turnover leaders, followed by Power Grid, Summit Power, UCBL, AB Bank, NBL, Uttara Bank, HeidelbergCement and Square Pharma.
Shares worth Tk 665.73 million of BRAC Bank and Tk 631.59 million of DESCO were traded accounting for 10.21 per cent and 9.69 per cent of the total trading of the week.
Rupali Bank, Apex Footwear and UCBL were the top gainers with 27.71 per cent, 24.40 per cent and 21.27 per cent rises over the previous week.
On the other hand, ISN, Agni Systems, Bdcom Online and Intech Online were the top losers on the news that foreign, local phone companies and internet service providers (ISPs) won't get overseas licences in the VOIP (voice over internet protocol) operations.
ISN declined by 42.62 per cent and Agni System fell 18.85 per cent in the week against the previous week.
