Stocks close another flat session

Stocks ended another flat session Thursday with turnover decline slightly as most of the investors followed ‘wait-and-see’ strategy.
The market opened with a positive note, but could not sustain, eventually ended flat into red. The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) --- DSEX --- ended at 4,759.32 points, losing 4.38 points or 0.09 per cent from previous session.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) declined less than one points to close at 995.74 points with a loss of 0.85 points or 0.85 per cent.
However, the DS30 index, comprising blue chips closed positive and gained 3.22 points or 0.19 per cent to close at 1,696.65 points.
The total turnover on DSE dropped to Tk 5.34 billion, registering 6.64 per cent decline over the previous session’s turnover value of Tk 5.72 billion.
The gainers took a lead over the losers as out of 287 issues traded, 136 advanced, 125 declined and 26 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor.
The market capitalization of the DSE stood at Tk 2,899.33 billion against Tk 2,898.11 billion in the previous session.
Delta Life Insurance continued to dominate the top turnover chart with shares worth Tk 433 million changing hands followed by BSCCL, Square Pharma, Olympic Insurance and Jamuna Oil.
DESCO was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 8.45 per cent while Reckitt Benckiser was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 5.95 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ended marginally with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX gained 18.14 points to close at 9,382.09 points.
Losers beat gainers 109 to 85, with 26 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 10.04 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 487.02 million.
