Stocks close red after four sessions

Stocks closed into the red after four sessions' gaining streak Tuesday with turnover dropped slightly as investors booked marginal profit from their previous purchase. The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) --- DSEX---- went down by 16.96 points or 0.35 per cent to close at 4,809.54 points from previous session despite opened with a positive note in the morning.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) went down by 1.81 points or 0.18 per cent to 979.71 points. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips also dropped 7.74 points or 0.46 per cent to close at 1,663.69 points. The total turnover on DSE stood at Tk 7.71 billion, registering 4.10 per cent decline over the previous session’s turnover value of Tk 8.04 billion. The losers took a marginal lead over the gainers as out of 292 issues traded, 163 declined, 112 gained and 17 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor.The market capitalization of the DSE stood at Tk 2,892.48 billion against Tk 2,901.26 billion in the previous session. Meghna Petroleum dominated the top turnover chart with shares worth Tk 297.87 million changing hands followed by Mercantile Bank, UCBL, Jamuna Oil and IFIC Bank. Desh Garments was also the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 9.54 per cent while GSP Finance was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 14.76 per cent following its price adjustment after record date. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed marginally lower, with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX--- lost 31.50 points to close at 9,461.84 points. Losers beat gainers 129 to 93, with 12 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 23.66 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 690.41 million.
