Stocks down, turnover up

Dhaka stocks edged lower on Thursday in a volatile trading session with benchmark index DGEN shedding 32.44 points although the market remained in the positive zone during most of the part of the session. The market opened with a happy mood, gaining more than 100 points within five minutes and the momentum continued till 1.30pm. After that it began to decline and finally closed 32 points lower. The benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN) shed marginally by 32.44 points or 0.53 per cent to close at 6,050.84 after the bourses main index gained 276 points in the previous session. The broader DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) went down by 22.15 points or 0.43 per cent to close at 5,032.95. The DSE 20 blue chip index also lost 45.09 points or 1.16 per cent to 3,826.21. The turnover increased to Tk 6.66 billion in value terms, up by 31.36 per cent, from Tk 5.07 billion in the previous session. Among the major sectors banks gained 0.91 per cent and NBFIs 0.40 per cent on the day while other major sectors lost while pharmaceuticals per cent and fuel and power lost 1.03 per cent and 1.69 per cent respectively. - FE Report
