Stocks edge lower

Stocks edged lower Monday after fourth consecutive sessions of winning streak with declining turnover as investors’ booked some profit amid cautious trading. The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) - DSEX went down by 6.75 points or 0.14 per cent to close the session at 4,751.62 points from previous session.The DS30 index, comprising blue chips also declined 13.20 points or 0.78 per cent to close at 1,659.61 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also went down by 4.77 points or 0.48 per cent to close at 982.26 points. The turnover on the DSE came down to Tk 6.72 billion, registering 21.76 per cent decline over the previous session’s turnover value of Tk 8.59 billion. Losers beat gainers 170 to 102, with 21 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor. Activities also decreased in the prime bourse. A total of 0.150 million trades were executed with 174.29 million shares and mutual fund units were trading volume. The market capitalisation of the DSE stood at Tk 2,868.14 billion against Tk 2,880.22 billion in the previous session. UCBL dominated the top turnover chart with shares worth Tk 248.76 million changing hands followed by Meghna Petroleum, Padma Oil, BEDL and LankaBangla Finance. National Tubes was also the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 6.39 per cent while Bengal Windsor Thermoplastic was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 9.95 per cent. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also edged lower, with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX-- lost 17.01 points to close at 9342.81 points. Losers beat gainers 144 to 66, with 20 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 20.87 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 637.41 million.
