Stocks end higher on year\\\'s last trading day

The last trading session of the outgoing calendar year ended positive Tuesday with turnover improved slightly as investors took position on lucrative stocks amid optimism. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went up by 50.80 points or 1.05 per cent to close at 4,864.96 points from the previous session. The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 22.45 points or 1.26 per cent to close at 1,803.05 points. The DSE Shariah Index advanced 13.38 points or 1.17 per cent to close at 1,150.22 points. Turnover crossed Tk 2.00 billion-mark and amounted to Tk 2.65 billion, registering an increase of 40.21 per cent over the previous session’s value of Tk 1.89 billion. The gainers took a lead over the losers as out of 309 issues traded, 228 advanced, 52 declined and 29 remained unchanged on the DSE floor. MJL BD was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 107.64 million changing hands followed by Beximco Pharma, GP, Lafarge Surma Cement and IDLC Finance. The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed in the green with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gained 85.70 points to close at 9,067.47 points. Gainers beat losers 159 to 58, with 22 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 7.14 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 621.64 million.
