Stocks open positive amid choppy trading

The prices of most of the shares on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw positive trend in early hours of trading on Thursday, the last trading day of the week. DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 23.24 points or 0.51 per cent to stand at 4,542.26 points after first 30 minutes of trade at 11am. DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 6.97 points or 0.70 per cent to stand at 990.67 points. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 11.63 points or 0.71 per cent to reach at 1,635.94 points. DSE turnover stood at only Tk 280 million when the report was filed at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 139 advanced, 22 declined and 27 remained unchanged. Bangladesh Shipping Corporation was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 40.29 million changing hands till then followed by Emerald Oil Industries, Padma Oil, National Tubes and Lafarge Surma Cement. The port city bourse – the CSE – also witnessed positive trend with its Selective Category Index --- CSCX gained 35.54 points or 0.40 per cent to stand at 8,820.67 points, also at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 42 gained, 15 declined and 5 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 29.59 million.
