Stocks open red amid choppy trading

The country's two bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – witnessed negative trend in early hours of trading on Monday, the second trading day of the week. Amid a choppy trading, DSEX, the main index of DSE, the country’s premier bourse, went down by 4.26 points or 0.09 per cent to stand at 4,398.24 points after first 30 minutes of trade when the report was filed at 11am. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, shed 4.36 points or 0.27 pc to reach at 1,593.55 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 2.87 points or 0.29pc to stand at 978.89 points. DSE turnover value stood at only Tk 184 million when the report was filed at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 63 advanced, 75 declined and 42 remained unchanged. The newcomer Hwa Well Textiles was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 11.51 million changing hands till then followed by Al-Haj Textile, GP, Lafarge Surma Cement and BSCCL. The port city bourse – CSE – also saw negative trend at opening with its Selective Category Index – CSCX losing 10.20 points to stand at 8,457.98 points, also at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 24 gained, 33 declined and 12 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 16.34 million.
