Stocks rise due to buying spree

Stock prices on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) continued to rally for the second consecutive session Sunday due to strong buying support from the investors' end.
Market operators said share prices have been gaining on the DSE due to higher participation of investors in daily trading on an account of year-end.
Market operators said the participation of investors especially the retail investors has been increasing in the daily trading due to ensuing announcement of lucrative dividend by the listed companies at the year-end.
Moreover, share prices of some companies like Beximco and its sister concerns have been increasing due to news that its detained Vice Chairman might be freed soon, market operators said.
On Sunday, the first trading session of the week, DSE General Index (DGEN), DSE-20 Index (DS20) and All Shares Price Index (DSI) gained 35.281 points, 70.806 points and 27.641 points to close at 3048.281, 2396.350 and 2576.983 respectively.
In the gainers-dominated market, the total turnover rose to Tk 2.314 billion from its previous Tk 2.22 billion. The total market capitalisation also increased to Tk 735.635 billion against its previous Tk 729.062 billion.
Out of 226 traded issues prices of 138 gained, 71 declined and 17 remained unchanged.
