Stocks rise, turnover crosses Tk 5b-mark

Stock prices on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose for the third day in a row Thursday with an 18 per cent rise in the turnover crossing Tk 5.0 billion-mark.
All the price barometers -- DGEN, DS 20 and All Shares Price Index -- gained 10.96, 21.60 and 9.41 points to close at 2985.46, 2141.88 and 2509.94 respectively. The turnover rose to Tk 5.26 billion against Tk 4.47 billion of Wednesday.
Out of 238 traded issues, 117 gained, 116 declined and five remained unchanged.
The market was quite upbeat during the initial period.
The benchmark DGEN gained around 25 points within the first one hour.
Most of the sector especially the banks gained during this period. Banks gained almost 1.5 per cent at one point in the trading session. The index started to come down when it almost reached the 3000-mark.
Most of the sectors including banks had slight price adjustment for the rest of the session. Banks enjoyed a slightly better share of total turnover compared to recent times.
Premier Bank became the top gainer with 5 per cent rise. Most of the non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) gained.
