Stocks see downturn at opening

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw downward trend in early hour of trading on Monday amid modest volatility, the second trading session of the week. DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 10.13 points or 0.21 per cent to reach at 4,644.61, after first 30 minutes of the trade when the report was filed at 11am. The two other indices also saw negative trend. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips lost 4.82 points or 0.27 per cent to reach at 1,772.68. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) shed 3.99 points or 0.35 per cent to stand at 1,121.48. DSE turnover stands at Tk 670 million when the report was filed at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 88 advanced, 99 declined and 52 issues remained unchanged. Quasem Drycells was the most traded stocks till then with shares BDT 78 million changing hands followed by Aftab Automobiles, Beximco Pharma, BSRM Steels and Lafarge Surma Cement. The port city bourse – the CSE also opened lower with its Selective Category Index -- CSCX – shedding 9.23 points to stand at 8,645.38, also at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 52 gained, 34 declined and 16 issues remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 38 million.
