Stocks slip at opening

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed downward trend in early hours of trading on Sunday, the first trading day of the week. DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 24.87 points or 0.56 per cent to stand at 4,367.27 points after first 30 minutes of trade when the report was filed at 11am. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 11.17 points or 0.69 per cent to plunge to 1,591.75. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) shed 11.81 points or 1.18 per cent to slide to 987.06. The DSE turnover stood at Tk 430 million when the report was filed at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 76 advanced, 57 declined and 36 remained unchanged. Square Pharma was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 147.76 million changing hands till then followed by Beximco, Shahjibazar Power, Peninsula Chittagong and FAR Chemical. The port city bourse – CSE – also saw negative trend with its Selective Category Index – CSCX – losing 58.89 points to stand at 8,268.09, also at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 18 gained, 27 declined and 9 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 41 million.
