Stocks slip in red amid low turnover

Stocks slipped in the red on Wednesday after previous session’s upturn as investors went for short-term profit-booking on large cap stocks. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended at 4,553.86 points, shedding 22.50 points or 0.49 per cent from previous session. The other two indices also ended red. The DS30, comprising blue chips lost 6.17 points or 0.35 per cent to close at 1,727.72 points. The DSE Shariah Index shed 4.10 points or 0.38 per cent to close at 1,066.15 points. DSE turnover stood at Tk 6.42 billion, a 13.59 per cent lower over the previous session’s Tk 7.43 billion. The losers took a lead over the gainers as out of 286 issues traded, 167 declined, 87 advanced and 30 remained unchanged on the DSE floor. Beximco Limited was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 372.68 million changing hands followed by MJL BD, Khulna Printing & Paper, GP and Lafarge Surma Cement. Khulna Printing & Paper was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 7.96 per cent while Kay & Que was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 8.57 per cent. The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed negative with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – lost 22.63 points to close at 8,558.73 points. Losers beat gainers 136 to 52, with 28 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 11.66 million shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 493.90 million.
