Stocks turn green amid high turnover

The country's two bourses returned to the green on Wednesday after previous session’s negative trend as optimistic investors took position on lucrative stocks. The capital markets opened with a positive trend that continued till the sessions closed. Eventually, the DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX), ended at 4,389.35 points, gaining 26.56 points or 0.60 per cent. The other two indices also ended in positive note. The DS30, comprising blue chips, adding 10.19 points or 0.63 per cent to close at 1,605.13 points. The DSES advanced 9.12 points or 0.92 per cent to end at 1,001.53. Turnover at the prime bourse also improved, with the value standing at Tk 2.56 billion at close, 32.35 per cent higher compared with the previous session’s turnover value of Tk 1.93 billion. The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 292 issues traded today, 156 advanced, 84 declined and 52 remained unchanged. Beximco Ltd was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 380.79 million changing hands followed by GP, Square Pharma, Lafarge Surma Cement and Meghna Petroleum. Shahjibazar Power, which made debut on Tuesday, was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 10.13 per cent while Popular Life Insurance was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 5.48 per cent. The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended in green zone with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gaining 41.28 points to close at 8,332.73. Gainers beat losers 98 to 63, with 38 issues remaining unchanged at the country’s 2nd bourse that traded 5.56 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Tk 221.51 million.
