Stocks, turnover down on bourses

Stocks ended marginally lower Sunday with declining turnover value as investors moved cautiously amid profit booking tendency. The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) --- DSEX --- ended at 4,822.71 points, shedding 22.37 points or 0.46 per cent despite opened with positive trend. However, the others two indices outperformed the market. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 16.75 points or 0.99 per cent to close the session at 1,698.66 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 6.60 points or 0.66 per cent to close at 1,002.96 points.
The total turnover on DSE came down to Tk 6.95 billion, registering 9.74 per cent decline over the previous session’s turnover value of Tk 7.70 billion. The losers took a lead over the losers as out of 289 issues traded, 194 declined, 73 advanced and 22 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor. The market capitalization of the DSE stood at Tk 2,914.94 billion against Tk 2,919.20 billion in the previous session. Square Pharma dominated the top turnover chart with shares worth Tk 388.06 million changing hands followed by BSCCL, Olympic Industries, Meghna Petroleum and LankaBangla Finance. BSCCL was also the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 7.00 per cent while Meghna Condensed Milk was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 8.77 per cent. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended lower, with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX 46.31 points to close at 9,476.74 points. Losers beat gainers 149 to 62, with 17 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 13.24 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 580.03 million.
