Stocks up for third day

Stocks ended higher on Monday for the third running session with improving turnover value as investors took position on mid-cap and small-cap stocks amid optimism.The market started with a positive trend it continued till the market closure amid modest see-saw, eventually ended marginally higher. At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended at 4,648.75 points, gaining 32.31 points or 0.69 per cent from previous session. The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 1.52 points or 0.08 per cent to close at 1,700.08 points. However, the DSE Index (DSES) went down by 3.32 points or 0.32 per cent to close at 1,030.99 points. Turnover value on DSE improved to Tk 4.61 billion, registering an increase of 15.53 per cent over the previous day’s value of Tk 3.99 billion. The gainers took a lead over the losers as out of 290 issues traded, 168 advanced, 103 declined and 19 issues closed unchanged on the DSE floor. Meghna Petroleum became the top turnover leaders with shares worth Tk 305 million changing hands followed by Lafarge Surma Cement, Heidelberg Cement, Square Pharma and Padma Oil. Fareast Finance & Investments was the day’s highest gainer; posting a rise of 9.32 per cent while Renwick Jajneswar was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 8.55 per cent.
The port city bourse - Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index --- CSCX gained 82.05 points to stand at 8,962.23 points. Gainers beat losers 113 to 97, with 13 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 11.84 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 433.22 million.
