Saturday, 31 May 2014
A forum of city dwellers on Saturday urged the Prime Minister to stop any commercial use of Dhanmondi playground so that it remains open to all. Addressing a press conference, organised by Dhanmondi Playground Protection Movement at the Jatiya Press Club, they observed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should intervene to save the playground and keep faith in the citizens about the positive activities of the government in saving the environment. Bishwa Sahitya Kendro founder Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed said attempts are on to destroy the playground by using the name of Bangabandhu’s family. Speaking on the occasion, Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (Bapa) joint secretary Iqbal Habib said the citizens will not give up their movement until the Dhanmondi playground is freed from illegal occupation, according to a news agency.
