Stop construction around Mahasthangarh: HC

Wednesday, 8 December 2010

The High Court (HC) Tuesday asked the local administration to take effective measures to stop the ongoing construction work around the archaeological site of Mahasthangarh under Shibganj Upazila in Bogra with a view to preserving its heritage, reports UNB.
A bench of justices AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain asked the district's Shibganj police officer-in-charge (OC) to carry out the order within 24 hours.
The order came following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) writ petition filed Tuesday by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
The court also asked to submit a report in five days after execution of the order.
At the same time, the court also asked the government to explain why law enforcers' inaction to stop constructions to preserve beauty of the historical site should not be declared illegal.
