Stop Hasina from making statements from Delhi
BD requests India
FE REPORT | Friday, 15 November 2024
Bangladesh has expressed sheer annoyance at deposed premier Sheikh Hasina's frequent political statements from India, urging the Narendra Modi government to restrain her from doing so anymore.
Toufique Hasan, director-general of the public diplomacy wing and also spokesperson for foreign ministry, said this during a press briefing at the ministry in Dhaka on Thursday.
Dhaka is unhappy with her frequent statements in the Indian media and it has been conveyed to Delhi through the Indian high commissioner here.
"After fleeing the country on August 05, the former prime minister took shelter in India and she has been continuously making political statements from there," said Mr Hasan.
"We have told the Indian high commissioner that our government is not happy with this," he continued.
The Indian envoy would convey the message to his government, cited Mr Hasan.
About the process of bringing back Hasina from India in line with the International Crimes Tribunal summons, he said foreign ministry was yet to get any request from the ministry concerned.
About the Indian visa issue, the spokesperson said Dhaka has already informed Delhi of this matter.
In reply, Delhi said it had to halt the processing of some categories of visa due to manpower shortages.
The foreign ministry is trying to ensure that Bangladeshi students, who need to go to India to obtain any third country's visa, can get it from countries like Vietnam or Pakistan, according to Mr Hasan.
