Stop rickshaws from plying on main roads

Monday, 2 September 2024

The recent surge in traffic congestion in Dhaka is alarming. Over the past month, the situation has worsened, primarily due to the unchecked movement of slow-moving rickshaws. These rickshaws, along with battery-run auto-rickshaws, are now plying the main roads and even the flyovers, creating severe traffic jams. Previously, the authorities restricted such vehicles from accessing major thoroughfares, but these days enforcement has become lax, leading to chaos on the roads.
I urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action to bar rickshaws from plying on Dhaka's main roads. Strict enforcement of traffic rules is essential to restore order and ensure a smooth flow of vehicles.
