Stop salaries, promotion of duty dodging doctors

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Sunday asked the Health Ministry to stop the salaries and promotion of the doctors dodging their duties depriving the people of pubic healthcare services, reports BSS.
She said this when a delegation of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parisad (Swachip) led by Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, also the president of Swachip, called on her at her Ganobhaban residence in the city in the evening on the occasion of the 18th founding anniversary of the organisation.
The PM said the government has been making all out efforts to reach the healthcare services to the doorstep of the common people. But, frequent absence of a section of doctors is depriving the patients of the services.
The government has taken a decision to give posting to the newly appointed doctors to their home districts so that they could serve the people of their locality and keep in touch with their families, she said urging the doctors to work with the mentality of serving the people.
The PM said her government is actively considering upgrading the Dhaka Medical College to a university to open up more scope for higher study in medical science.
Secretary General of Swachip Dr Iqbal Arslan, Health Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dablu and Founding Secretary General of Swachip Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, MP, spoke on the occasion.
