Strauss to cover for injured Cook
Wednesday, 18 June 2008
Andrew Strauss will stay with England's squad for the second one-day match against New Zealand today (Wednesday) as cover for the injured Alastair Cook, reports BBC.
Cook has been struggling with a right shoulder injury since the final Test at Trent Bridge over a week ago.
He missed the Twenty20 victory over the Kiwis and was also ruled out of the first one-day match on Sunday, which England won by 114 runs.
Strauss last played a one-day game for England in April 2007.
The Middlesex batsman played in all three Tests this summer, scoring a century in the second match at Old Trafford, after an impressive performance in his last innings in New Zealand earlier this year.
However, he is yet to feature in this summer's limited overs series.
New Zealand are likely to be without key all-rounder Jacob Oram for at least another week as he continues to struggle with a hamstring strain.
Fellow all-rounder Grant Elliot, who made his Test debut against England in Napier, has been drafted in as cover for the Edgbaston match and will join up with the squad Wednesday.
