Strawberry being cultivated in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Mar 20: Strawberry is being cultivated on a modest scale in some areas of Nilphamari district.
One youth named Ataur Rahman of Syedpur said in the year 2009 he collected strawberry saplings from a teacher of Botany Manjur Hossain of Rajshahi to cultivate the fruit in 10 decimal of land in Syedpur cantonment public school and college area. On being successful later on in this year he cultivated the fruit in 30 decimal of land in Kamar Pukur union parished of Syedpur upazila.
He is expecting to sell strawberry worth Tk. 0.3 million this year. He mentioned that BARI-1, BARI-3 and Festbar -- these three varieties of strawberries are being cultivated in the region out of which Festbar strawberry is climate friendly of our country. He hoped to expand his cultivation next year.
