Stray dogs

Stray dogs have lately become a great nuisance for the Dhaka city dwellers. The two city corporation authorities appear to have turned quite oblivious of the menace. The scenario was quite different in the past.
The then Dhaka Municipality used to conduct regular drives against stray dogs. The municipal staff equipped with dog catchers and other tools would often be seen hunting down stray dogs across the city. As a result the capital city used to remain tolerably free of these dogs, with passersby moving freely on sidewalks and alleys.
This scenario now seems to belong to a distant past. Stray dogs these days are seen lying in the middle of footpaths, sometimes in groups. Children and women find it hard to move without goose bumps. Even the males scared of dogs now avoid sidewalks. Few footpaths in the congested areas are dog-free these days.
How long the city people will have to undergo this ordeal of stray dogs?
