Strict implementation of TCA to save human lives stressed

RANGPUR, Apr 1(BSS): Participants at a workshop here have stressed the need for strict implementation and enforcement of the amended Tobacco Control Act (TCA) to save thousands of human lives annually in the country.
They put special emphasis on creating public awareness about the harms of using tobacco products including smoking and tobacco-related diseases those have been killing millions of people in the globe annually posing a real threat to human civilisation.
National Tobacco Control Cell (NTCC) of the Ministry of Health and Family Planning Welfare organised the workshop styled 'Implementation and Enforcement of Tobacco Control Law in Bangladesh' at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.
The district administration and civil surgeon office facilitated and the International Union against Tuberculosis & Lung Disease and World Health Organisation (WHO) extended assistances in arranging the workshop.
The physicians, heads of government departments, NGO officials, civil society members, religious and business community leaders, professionals, sociocultural activists, journalists, public representatives and elite participated.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Health and family Welfare Syeda Anwara Begum attended the workshop as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad in the chair.
Civil Surgeon Dr Reajul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Education & ICT) Tonima Tasnim and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Mozammel Haque Sikder addressed the workshop as the special guests.
Noted physicians Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu and Dr Delwar Hossain, journalist Siddikur Rahman and Project Coordinator of Association for Community Development Ehsanul Amin Emon participated in the discussion.
