Strict laws needed to combat human trafficking, say Jessore judges

JESSORE, Jun 1: Abdus Salam, judge, Anti-Human Trafficking Tribunal, Jessore at a workshop on role of stakeholders in combating human trafficking: repatriation and reintegration of trafficked victims said judgments could not be possible in a total 214 cases of human trafficking due to lack of evidences. The accused were not punished, too, in Jessore.
The workshop was held at Jessore circuit house conference room on Saturday.
Strict laws are needed to curb human trafficking. Recruiting agencies should be taken under government supervision. "There should be separate cells on trafficking in persons in Bangladesh high commissions, especially those countries humans of Bangladesh are being trafficked", he added.
Anisur Rahman, Superintendent of Police, Jessore, said a total of 37 cases were filed in Trafficking in Persons Law -2012 in the first five months of 2014.
Jessore Session and District Judge Dr Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder was the chief guest in the workshop.
Jointly organised by Rights Jessore and National Human Rights Commission, the workshop was chaired by Mostafizur Rahman, deputy commissioner.  Government officials, human rights defenders, NGO officials, lawyers, police officials and journalists took part the workshop.
