Sunday, 13 June 2010

SRINAGAR, June 12 (AFP): Thousands of Indian police and paramilitary forces sealed off neighbourhoods of Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar Saturday to prevent protests over the death of a Muslim youth.
The 17-year-old was killed in downtown Srinagar on Friday during clashes between anti-India protesters and riot police.
Police said they were investigating the death, which sparked more protests and clashes between police and protesters.
The lockdown was enforced Saturday in most parts of Srinagar to prevent further protests.
