Strong demand for cleaner varieties
Thursday, 4 February 2010
In the local tea market the demand was very strong particularly for the cleaner varieties of tea which advanced sharply. Blenders/Packers operated very strongly while there was a fair support from the Loose tea buyers. There was only a little enquiry from Export buyers.
Dusts saw a stronger market at dearer levels, particularly the good liquoring varieties.
CTC LEAF: 26,296 packages and 10 packages of Old Season on offer continued to meet with a stronger demand at higher rates.
BROKENS: A handful of clean liquoring Brokens on offer were strongly competed for and advanced by Tk 3 to Tk 5 and these could be quoted between Tk 173 and Tk 178. Plainer types were steady while the poor varieties were again lower with fair withdrawals.
FANNINGS: All clean Fannings were a very strong feature and advanced by Tk 5 to Tk 7 and the neater types could be quoted between Tk 175 and Tk 180 and sometimes more. Mediums were dearer by upto Tk 5 while the plainest met with a fair demand but there were some withdrawals in this category.
CTC DUST: 4,913 packages and 10 packages of Old Season on offer met with a stronger demand at firm to dearer rates. Good liquoring varieties again met with a strong competition and were dearer by Tk 5 and more. Others were mostly sold at around last levels in line with quality. Plainer varieties eased slightly with a few withdrawals. Blenders were more active with quite good support from the Loose tea buyers.
