Strong tremor shakes Sylhet region

A strong tremor shook Sylhet district and its adjoining areas early Friday, sending panic-stricken people out of their houses, reports UNB.
According to Sylhet Met Office, the 6.0 magnitude quake was felt at 2:51 am and lasted for a few seconds.
However, there was no report of damage or injury due to the tremor.
Many people, being panicked, came out of their houses. According to official records, tremors have jolted the region 36 times in the last four years.
Last month, two tremors were also felt in the capital and Sylhet region after two massive earthquakes struck the Andaman Islands and the Myanmar-India border.
The quake of 7.6 magnitude in Andaman Island on Aug 11 forced the authorities to issue a tsunami alert in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the Met Office in Dhaka said a strong earthquake, measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, was felt along the Myanmar-India border area on Friday.
It said the distance of the epicentre was 424 kilometres away from the Agargaon Seismic Centre in Dhaka.
