Bangladesh and Sri Lanka should immediately introduce direct air link to boost trade and investment relations between the two South Asian countries, businessmen said Sunday.
They made the call during a meeting between the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka, and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) at the latter's headquarters in the capital.
T T Herath, deputy high commissioner of Sri Lanka in Bangladesh, said the purpose of the five-day visit of his country's business delegation is to foster trade and investment relations between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as economic ties between them are limited to a narrow area.
"Direct air connectivity is another problem, which needs to be solved to further boost the economic relationship," he said.
Mr Herath told the meeting they are seriously considering initiating direct air link with Bangladesh, which may be started by next month.
"But it still is subjected to the approval of Bangladesh's civil aviation authorities," the deputy high commissioner said.
