Student dies in road accident

A private university student was run over by a bus in Dhaka's Shukrabad on Sunday afternoon and he died later in hospital. Shahin Ferdous, 20, was a second-year student of journalism at Daffodil University, police said. His classmate Anwarul Haque Babu told bdnews24.com Ferdous was hit by a speeding microbus while crossing a road next to the campus at around 5pm. He was badly injured. He was admitted to the Square Hospitals in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries a little over two hours later. Witnesses said infuriated by the death, university students vandalised several vehicles. Traffic on the Azimpur-Mirpur road came to a halt, as the protesting students blocked the busy road at Shukrabad for about an hour, according to a news agency.
