Student strangled in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Mar 22 (BSS): A student of class six was strangled after snatched his mobile phone in village Nazar Mamud under Pirgachha Upazila here Sunday evening and one was held on Monday on charges of murder, police sources said.
The victim was identified as Swapan Miah (12), son of Babu Mian of the village and the arrested is Laizu (24), son of Mamtaz Ali of the same village.
Laizu and his two cohorts Raihan and Sobuz of the same area found Swapan with a mobile phone set in hand in front of the grocery of Abdul Mannan.
With a view to snatch the mobile phone, Laizu and his cohorts tactfully took Swapan to a nearby banana filed, snatched the phone set, strangled him and left the place leaving the body.
Police recovered the body and handed over to his relatives after conducting its autopsy at the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue last afternoon.
Victim's father Babu Mina filed a murder case in this connection against Laizu, Raihan and Sobuz with Pirgachha police station.
Laizu was sent to the jail hajat, the sources said.
Equal rights for women stressed
Anoher report adds: Women community leaders and activists at a street meeting Sunday demanded establishing equal rights and opportunities for the country's womenfolk to attaining sustainable national development.
They strongly protested the devil bids of the `Fotoabaz', who have been trying to resist establishing equal rights of the women through opposing the time befitting women policy prepared by the present government.
They were addressing the street meeting arranged by the district unit of Sammilito Sochetan Nari Samaj of Panchagarh at Chowrangi Mour in Panchagarh district town for women development and establishing equal rights and opportunities of the womenfolk.
Earlier, a road march participated by the women leaders and activists of different women organisations paraded the streets of the district town before gathering at the street meeting.
