A total of seven persons were killed in separate road accidents in Manikganj and Chattogram districts on Monday, reports UNB.
In Manikganj, a student and a teacher were killed and several others injured when a truck ploughed through a school in Shivalaya upazila of Manikganj district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Jarin Tasnim, 7, daughter of Sahidul Islam of Tepra village and a class II student of the school, and Fatema Akter, a teacher of the school and wife of Awlad Hossain of Vakla village in Shikshika upazila.
Locals said, "A firm 'NDE Company' used to keep the truck on the ground of Abdul Alim Memorial School paying rent to the authorities".
As the driver started the truck to get out of the school around 10:30am, it ploughed into a group of students on the school ground, leaving Tasnim dead on the spot.
Several others, including teacher Fatema, were seriously injured.
Later, they were taken to the Upazila Health Complex where Fatema died while undergoing treatment.
The other teachers including the headmaster of the school managed to flee the scene.
However, the driver was caught by the locals.
Legal action will be taken in this regard, said Mohammad Shahin, officer-in-charge of Shibalaya Police Station.
In Chattogram, five people were killed and two others injured in a collision between a private car and a truck on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway in Lohagora upazila of Chattogram early Monday.
Three of the deceased were identified as Harunur Rashid, 30, Saidul, 33, and Humayun, 25. They were residents of Lohagara upazila.
The Cox's Bazar-bound speeding private car crashed into the Chattogram-bound truck near Adhunik Nagar Bazar, leaving two car passengers dead on the spot and five others injured, said Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dohazari Highway Police Station.
Two others died on the way to a local hospital, he added.
Three injured people were sent to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where Humayun succumbed to his injuries around 10am.
"The two vehicles were seized", said the OC.
