Student's death in road accident sparks violence

RAJSHAHI, May 23 (UNB): The death of a college student in a road accident sparked off violence at Barnali Crossing in the city Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Tushar (23), student of Rajshahi Government College and son of Tozammel Haque of Kadamhazir Crossing in Godagari Upazila.
Local sources said that the accident occurred at about 10:00 am when a sand-laden truck hit him while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot.
Angered by the accident, local people rushed to the spot, damaged the truck and set it on fire and blocked the road, which hampered traffic movement.
The truck driver and his helper, however, managed to escape.
Fire service personnel later doused the fire.
Police also rushed to the spot and persuaded the mob to withdraw the blockade.
Police sent the body to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
