Students, engineers advised to use admixtures, chemicals in producing durable concrete

The students and practicing engineers have been advised to become aware of the potential of using admixtures and chemicals in producing durable concrete.
Head of the Department of Civil Engineering of Southern University Bangladesh (SUB) Prof Engr M Ali Ashraf, PEng made the suggestion while delivering his presidential address at a seminar in the city Monday.
The seminar on Construction Chemicals and Structural Strengthening by Fibre Reinforced Polymer was held at the Department of Civil Engineering of SUB, said a press release.
Mr Ashraf further emphasised using of Fibre Reinforced Polymer in structural and seismic retrofitting of existing buildings and structures.
Manager of Construction Chemicals Division of BASF, Bangladesh Engr Fahima Shahadat presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
Students of civil engineering department, professional engineers and the faculty members attended the seminar.
In her presentation, Eng Fahima described the use of construction chemicals and strengthening of concrete by using Fibre Reinforced Polymer.
Lecturer of the Department of Civil Engineering of SUB Engr Feroze Rashid conducted the seminar.
The speakers also focused on repairing and strengthening of reinforced concrete by retrofitting process.
