Students of Dhaka, Ideal colleges lock in clashes

Students of Dhaka College and Dhanmondi Ideal College engaged in clashes in the capital on Tuesday, violating their 'peace deal'.
According to the police and eyewitnesses, the incident began at around 9:00 am on the road behind LabAid Hospital when 8-10 Dhaka College students allegedly chased Ideal College students with sticks.
Police escorted students from both the colleges and sent them back to their campuses. One Ideal College student was briefly taken to New Market police station. He was later handed over to the college principal due to an ongoing exam.
Later, a group of Ideal College students attacked a bus of Dhaka College near Science Lab area at around 10:30 am, leaving several students injured on the spot.
Hearing the news, around 150 students of Dhaka College rushed towards Ideal College with sticks and tampers, escalating the confrontation into a larger clash.
Law-enforcers fired two sound grenades and five tear gas shells to restore order. Sporadic clashes continued to occur in Science Lab area, involving students from Dhaka College, Ideal College, and Dhaka City College, causing traffic congestion and inconvenience to people.
Meanwhile, Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna zone, said the reason that sparked clashes between the students of two colleges was unclear. The situation went volatile fast following attack on a bus of Dhaka College by the students of Ideal College.
Later, Dhaka College students moved towards Ideal College, leading to clashes between the two groups. Police sent Dhaka College students to their campus.
