Students stage demo for SUCSU elections

SYLHET, Jan 20: Candidates and supporters on Tuesday staged protests demanding that the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Central Students' Union (SUCSU) and hall parliament elections be held as scheduled.
The protesters gathered in front of the university administrative office from Tuesday morning. During the demonstration, they shouted slogans such as "broker" when Pro Vice-Chancellor Sajedul Karim entered the office.
According to witnesses, protesters chanted slogans as the Pro VC reached the Vice-Chancellor's office. During the protest, demonstrators raised slogans including, "No more excuses for SUCSU" and "No more bullying for SUCSU."
Islami Chhatra Shibir VP candidate Delwar Hasan Shishir said the movement will continue until their demands were met.
"Students will continue maximum pressure," he added. Earlier, the agitators had gheraoed the Vice-Chancellor's office on Monday night to press for the elections. The VC and other officials were freed at around 1:30 am on Tuesday after being assured that the election would be arranged immediately following a Supreme Court order.
