Students to get 'attractive textbooks' in next academic year: Milon

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Sunday expressed firm determination to provide students with completely error-free, quality, lively and attractive textbooks in the 2027 academic year, overcoming all mistakes and shortcomings of the past, reports BSS.
He came up with this determination while addressing, as the chief guest, the inaugural ceremony of the "Workshop on Finalising the Framework of Four New Textbooks" for the primary and secondary levels for the 2027 academic year at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj and State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque joined the event as special guests with National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman Professor Mohammad Fakhrul Maola in the chair.
Prime Minister's Education Adviser Dr Mahdi Amin, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleque, Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Moula, Technical and Madrasa Education Division Secretary Md. Daud Mia and Primary and Mass Education Secretary Md. Sakhawat Hossain were also present.
The Education Minister said, "Over the past years, textbooks contained numerous spelling mistakes and inappropriate contents in the manuscripts, which drew severe criticism. This time, we are carrying out intensive group-based work with education experts. Clearing away those past deficiencies, we are preparing one hundred percent error-free books."
He added, "There will be no compromise on the quality of printing and paper. The covers and illustrations inside the books must be so lively that they attract young learners."
Milon said stakeholders are being given the opportunity to thoroughly review the manuscripts of the four new textbooks before they are finalised.
The expert team formed by the State Minister for Youth and Sports has been asked to submit its conclusive statement on the sports chapter within the next five working days, while the subcommittee led by the State Minister for Cultural Affairs will also submit its opinions within the next five days.
