Students want DU's affiliation with 7 colleges scrapped

Tuesday, 16 January 2018

Dhaka University (DU) students demonstrated in front of the vice-chancellor's office on Monday demanding an end to the university's ties with seven affiliated colleges, reports bdnews24.com.
The protest entered its second day on Monday as the students began a march from the Aparajeyo Bangla statue on the campus.
After making a round of the campus, the students assembled outside the offices of the vice-chancellor.
Some of the protesters told the news agency that officials from the office padlocked the gate towards the registrar's building so that the students could not enter. The protesters then demonstrated outside the building.
Mashiur Rahman, a student of Dhaka University Institute of Information Technology, also a convener of the protest, said, "We are demanding the administration severs its affiliation with the seven colleges." "We will remain here until our demand is met."
The protesters blocked the TSC intersection on Sunday, causing traffic congestion in nearby areas.
On February 23 of last year the seven colleges were made affiliates of Dhaka University at the directive of the prime minister and the Ministry of Education.
