CHITTAGONG, Oct 06: Counterfeit electronic and cosmetic items of different categories have flooded Reazuddin Bazar and its surrounding areas of the city and the buyers are being deceived on procuring them seeing brand names, sources said.
A small syndicate in Reazuddin Bazar area is allegedly involved in marketing these substandard items including VCD, DVD, fan, two-in-one, mobile sets, cables, scents, body spray, body lotion, cream, snow, powder etc.
Members of the syndicate collect used cosmetic containers and second-hand electronic goods from people and fill them with substandard perfumes and reshape the electronic items as brand new ones before supplying them to different shops of Reazuddin Bazar and its adjoining areas including Tamakundi Lane.
Despite the stuck seals of foreign countries like Japan, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Malaysia and India the electronic and cosmetic items are revamped in this country.
Side by side, on procuring electronic items from abroad, different parts of them are replaced with counterfeit ones keeping other portions intact.
Most of the goods become unusable after a very short period of buying. Usually no receipt or warranty card is issued at the time of selling them to buyers and the sellers do not take back them.
Although law enforcers conduct campaigns frequently and recover some fake goods, the situation has not improved and the dishonest business is continuing in this market of the port city unabated, the sources added.
