Sudden steep rise in prices of beef, some vegetables

Prices of some vegetables and beef increased in the city markets Saturday.
Traders said price of green chilli increased by Tk 20 per kg at retail level and a kg of better green chilli was being sold between Tk 55-Tk60 Saturday whereas the rate was Tk 40 a day before.
Price of cucumber jumped by about Tk 20 and a kg of cucumber was being sold at Tk 60 Saturday against its previous rate of Tk 40. Price of tomato increased by Tk 35 at retail level and a kg of better quality tomato was being sold at Tk 120 whereas the rate was between Tk 80 and Tk 90 a day before.
Market sources said price of beef increased by Tk 20 per kg Saturday and retailers were selling a kg of beef at Tk 240 against its previous rate of Tk 220.
Carrot was being sold at Tk 60 per kg Saturday whereas the price was between Tk 36 and Tk 40 a day before.
