\\\'Sufia Kamal fought for non-communal society\\\'

Speakers at a seminar said on Saturday the literary endeavour of poet Sufia Kamal was devoted to establishing a non-communal and humane society and state, reports BSS.
Sufia Kamal searched for diversity through her literary activities and at the same time she spoke firmly over women and human rights issues, said Begum Akhtar Kamal, chairman of Department of Bengali of Dhaka University, at Sufia Kamal commemorative lecture at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharat auditorium of Bangla Academy.
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad organised the commemorative lecture "Sufia Kamal's Literature: Humanism and Rights of Women".
Presided over by Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam, the function was also addressed by its General Secretary Maleka Banu. Ayesha Khanam said poet Sufia Kamal was the 'conscience' of Bangladesh.  She showed the way to implement whatever she said in his literatures through self-wakening and soul-searching.
Maleka Banu said the prime objective of Sufia Kamal's lifelong struggle was establishing a democratic and humane society and state based on the spirit of War of Liberation and gender parity.
In the function, eight eminent women were given Sufia Kamal Honorary Award. They are language movement veterans Halima Khatun, Sufia Ahmed, Raushan Ara Bachhu and Protibha Mutsuddi, Deputy Inspector General of Police Mili Biswas, farmer Farida Begum of Belabo, factory worker Aroti Rani of Savar and Kaukhali local government representative Mamata Shikder.
