Sugar mills in N region disbursing loans among farmers

NATORE, Jun 14 (BSS): The authorities of North Bengal Sugar Mill and Natore Sugar Mill in the district are disbursing loans among the marginal sugarcane farmers for seeds, fertilisers and irrigation facilities in the next season.
Meanwhile, a huge quantity of sugar worth Tk 660 million (66 crore) has been stored in both the sugar mills, sources said.
North Bengal Sugar Mill sources said the mill has, at present, a total of 16,100 tonnes of sugar worth over Tk 460 million. Besides, 8,000 tonnes of 'chitagur' (molasses) worth over Tk 4.0 million have also been accumulated in the mill.
On the other hand, 7,200 tonnes of sugar worth over Tk 200 million have been stored in Natore Sugar Mill.
Despite the liabilities, authorities of the two sugar mills are distributing loans among 19,000 marginal farmers to ensure good harvest of sugarcane in the next season.
Sources said, the North Bengal Sugar Mill authorities are disbursing Tk 50.5 million among 10,000 farmers for cultivation of sugarcane on 11,000 acres of land, while Natore Sugar Mill authorities are distributing Tk 50 million among 9,000 farmers for cultivation of sugarcane on 12,000 acres of land.
